What Humidity Is Doing To Your Employees

15 December 2020 | Humidity Control

Our humidity control products are generally sought after as a way to protect machinery and sensitive equipment in the workplace. For example, the link between corrosion and high humidity is undeniable and this is one area where our products and service can manage that situation. But the human factor should also be taken into account when discussing humidity – too much of it, or too little, is not good for your employees.

Humidity control products like the ones we provide are essential in getting the balance right between too much, and not enough. As a rule of thumb, ‘high’ humidity starts at around 50%, while low humidity is calculated to be around 30%. So, if we look at somewhere in the middle for the ideal range, then 40% would obviously be it. Striking that happy balance is virtually impossible without the right products and that is why we do what we do – we take the guesswork out of maintaining comfortable humidity levels in the workplace.

High humidity in your place of work can have a range of unpleasant and long-lasting side effects. High moisture levels promote increased mould growth – black mould spores, in particular, can cause eye and skin irritation, and with prolonged exposure have been known to be the cause of serious lung infections. Meanwhile, moist conditions are the perfect breeding ground for dust mites, which can cause allergic and asthmatic reactions in some of your employees. To top it off, high humidity can aggravate other heat-related illnesses, and reduce productivity by making workers feel tired, sick and lethargic.

At the other end of the scale, low humidity isn’t exactly a good thing either. Air that is too dry irritates eyes and causes sore throats and headaches. In some buildings, particularly with synthetic carpeting, low humidity can lead to a build-up of static electricity. This can damage office equipment in some cases but most often you’ll know static electricity is too high because of all those unpleasant static shocks experienced by your employees when they touch certain surfaces capable of retaining the charge.

See what we mean about getting the balance right? Too much humidity is not good, and neither is too little. Tyring to control humidity without expert assistance is a very inexact science. It’s doomed to fail. For humidity control products that get it just right, for the sake of your employees and equipment, we strongly recommend that you contact us.

We run a cafe in Mt Albert. I called them on late afternoon Thursday 21 Feb 2019 requesting an urgent help with a refrigerated food cabinet which was not keeping consistent temperature. Their technician was on site next morning and had it all sorted out in double quick time. Excellent polite service. Highly recommended
