It’s Curtains For Humidity

13 July 2021 | Humidity Control

If you’re concerned about humidity control at your place of work, then we have the products and solutions to help you manage the issue. We take a multi-dimensional approach to humidity control, so we don’t always rely on conventional dehumidifiers. Depending on your situation, other methods might be more effective, and that includes installing air curtains.

An air curtain looks a bit like a heat pump or a compact air conditioning unit from a distance. Like those things, an air curtain uses a fan to force a curtain of air out of the appliance – but in a downward direction. When the forced air is pushed down towards the floor, it creates an invisible barrier – think of it as a curtain you can’t see, hence the name. This helps control interior temperatures by preventing hot or cold air from entering a doorway or building at an opening.

Air curtains are also used to keep contaminants including insects, dust, pollen, and other debris, from entering an interior space. And, to bring us back to the original point of this blog post, it plays a big part in humidity control. That’s because an air curtain will prevent humid outside air from entering the space inside. This reduces the energy required to treat the air and significantly improves comfort.

We supply both heated and unheated air curtains. Heated curtains are able to protect against contaminants like dust and pollen, but their primary role is to prevent heat from escaping through an open door. They are typically used in areas where temperature control is a priority, such as the entrances of shopping malls and stores. Ever walked into a major shopping centre and felt warm air on the top of your head as you enter? That could well be a heated air curtain. It pushes heat back into a building during the cooler winter months rather than allowing it to escape, and this can lead to substantial energy savings.

On the other hand, unheated air curtains are used where controlling the entrance of contaminants is a priority. The downward airflow of the air curtain prevents dust and air particles from freely moving between areas. Think of hospitals, laboratories, and kitchens as just three places where air quality is critical, and you’ll see why unheated air curtains are used in these settings.

Air curtains are very versatile as they can control humidity, temperature, pests and contaminants. They could be the ideal solution for you but the best way to get the right answer for your particular situation is to contact us and we’ll come and see you.
